How I Make Cheap Shadows Pop

Getting any eye shadow colour to show up on dark skin (especially matte ones) can be a challenge. I get asked all the time, "What bright palettes are the best for POC?" and honestly, I've yet to find the perfect one. In the meantime, there are a couple of hacks I use to get the best payoff from even the cheapest of shadows.


1. Use a White Base

Many makeup enthusiasts will know about this already, but using a white base for your eyeshadow really helps them pop. You don't need to look for something that's specifically called "eyeshadow base". You could use a white cream shadow, a white concealer or even a white gel liner.


2. Use a Base that Matches the Shadow

I find this one the most useful when I want to build up colour in the eye crease. You can use anything from cream shadows to liquid lipsticks. My favourite colour bases to use are the NYX Professional Makeup Liquid Suede lipsticks. Apply this with a dense fluffy brush and this will really help the colours you use to apply smoother, layer and blend better.
